Academic Achievement
Helping Children and Youth Achieve Their Potential
United Way of Coastal Fairfield County’s strategic initiative is to help ensure that all high school students in the region graduate “college ready and prepared to succeed in life” focuses on preparing youth for success in higher education and the world of work. We recognize that educational excellence and economic development are inextricably linked, i.e. that there is a direct relationship between the quality of public education and the economic vitality of the Greater Bridgeport region.
Four components of Academic Achievement are the Schools of Hope, The Mentoring Institute, Out-of-School-Time Activities, Parent Engagement. Specific outcomes that we hope to achieve are:
- More high school students graduating college-ready;
- More parental involvement in their children’s’ education;
- More mentors recruited;
- More mentors retained;
- More students reading at grade level by grade three;
- More coordinated delivery of out-of-school-time activities.
