Community Resource Center
In response the economic crisis and the dramatic increase of demands for services placed on the non-profit system, the Community Resource Center (CRC) partnership was developed between The Workplace and United Way of Coastal Fairfield County. The new CRC provides case management for the recently unemployed to determine their overall needs and provide resources, financial or referrals, to help them get back on their feet. Examples of assistance and referrals received include items such as food, clothing, shelter, utility payments, and car repairs so that individuals can continue to look for work.
During the month of July, the program accepted 70 applications and paid out $38,060, mainly for utilities and rental assistance. Most clients were from Bridgeport. Since the beginning of the program in late February, there have been 426 applications filed; 252 have been accepted. As of July 31, 2009, a total of $132,150 has been paid, $60,783 for utilities and $62,009 for rental assistance.
